About RackCut
A privacy-first tool for lifters
RackCut is a free web app that turns a long, messy gym recording into a clean clip of just your working set. You import a squat, bench, or deadlift video, RackCut detects where the lift happens and counts the reps, and you export a trimmed clip — ready to save, review, or share. The thing that makes RackCut different: every step runs on your own device. Your video is never uploaded to us.
Why we built it
Anyone who films their lifts knows the routine: you prop your phone against a water bottle, record the whole set-up, the walk-out, the rest, and finally the lift. Later you’re left scrubbing through minutes of footage to find the few seconds that matter. Cloud trimming tools exist, but they ask you to upload personal gym footage to a server you don’t control. We thought there was a better way: do the work in the browser, on the device that already holds the video, and never send the footage anywhere.
How it works
When you import a clip, RackCut runs an on-device pose model (Google’s MediaPipe) to track your body through the video. A detector built specifically for barbell movements finds the working set, estimates rep count, and proposes a trim. You can accept it or fine-tune the in/out points yourself, then export the result. Because the pose analysis and the video trimming both happen locally — using WebAssembly and your browser’s own media APIs — nothing about your video leaves your phone or computer.
Private by design
Privacy isn’t a setting in RackCut; it’s the architecture. There’s no account to create, no upload step, and no copy of your footage on our servers — because there are no servers in the path. We use privacy-respecting, cookie-free analytics to understand which screens people use, and an optional “Help improve RackCut” toggle that, when on, sends only anonymous numeric pose coordinates (never video, images, faces, or audio) to improve detection. Free, with an optional Pro upgrade
The core experience — import, detect, trim, and export — is free. RackCut is supported by ads for free users. If you’d rather work without ads, unlock premium themes, and send finished clips straight to Google Drive, there’s a one-time RackCut Pro upgrade. There’s no subscription and no recurring charge.

RackCut is built and maintained by an independent developer in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. It started as a personal tool for cutting down training footage and grew into the app you’re using now.
