RackCut lets you import or record a lifting set, automatically trim it to the lift, and export a clean clip. This policy explains what we collect, why, and your choices. It is written to align with Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). We built RackCut to be private by default — in the free trimmer, your videos are processed on your own device and are never uploaded to us. The one exception is Rack-Cut Coaching, a separate logged-in service where you deliberately send a clip to your coach; it has its own section below, and nothing about it changes the on-device trimmer.
The short version
In the free trimmer, your videos never reach our servers; trimming and analysis happen entirely in your browser, and no account is required. Rack-Cut Coaching is different: it needs a sign-in, and the clips you choose to send are stored (see the Coaching section). Payments are handled by Stripe (we never see your card number). Google Drive upload is optional and its token stays on your device. Anonymous usage data is off until you turn it on. No tracking cookies, no cross-web ad tracking by us. Video and image content in the free trimmer: stays on your device
When you import or record a set in the free trimmer, all processing (lift detection, pose analysis, trimming, export) runs locally in your browser. Your video and its frames are never uploaded to RackCut and are never accessible to us. The pose landmarks we derive also stay on your device — the one exception is that, if you leave “Help improve RackCut” on (see below), anonymous numeric pose coordinates are sent to improve detection. Even then, no video, images, faces, or audio ever leave your device.
Rack-Cut Coaching — when you choose to send a clip
Rack-Cut Coaching is an optional, invite-only service where a coach programs your training and reviews your lifts. It is separate from the free trimmer above, and you only use it if a coach invites you and you sign in. When you use it:
What you send. Only the clip you choose to send is uploaded, never the untouched camera file. At original quality the whole video is re-packaged on your device without changing the picture; at the smaller size it is trimmed and re-compressed. Either way, location tags, device details and other hidden file details are removed on your device before anything is sent. A clip can be at most 100 MB. Along with a clip we store what you log against your program (weights, reps, RPE, your notes) and your check-ins (sleep, stress, energy, bodyweight, a note), because that is what your coach is there to see.
Where it is stored. On our behalf by Supabase, in a Canadian data centre (Montréal, ca-central-1). Access is enforced at the database itself.
Who can see it. You, and the one coach you are actively working with. No other coach, and no other athlete, can see your clips or logs. We do not watch your clips as a matter of course; we can only access data where strictly necessary to run or fix the service.
How long we keep a clip. A submitted clip is kept for at most 30 days, then automatically deleted. It goes sooner if you delete it. Your own training log stays with you.
Deleting. You can delete any clip you have sent, at any time — when a clip is deleted, your coach’s video review of it is deleted with it. To stop working with a coach, email evan@rack-cut.com and we will end it. From then, that coach loses access to everything you sent them.
Signing in. Coaching lets you sign in with Google or with a passwordless email link or code; we store your email and your display name so your coach knows who you are. There is no public sign-up — a coach adds you by email.
Anonymous usage data — only if you opt in
RackCut includes a “Help improve RackCut” toggle. It is off until you turn it on, and nothing is sent before then. While it is on, each time you analyze or export a clip we send anonymous technical data to improve detection accuracy: anonymous pose-landmark coordinates (numeric points — no video, images, faces, or audio), the detected lift type and whether the auto-trim was accepted or adjusted, and app/browser version with general error diagnostics. This data contains no personal identifiers, cannot be linked back to you, and is stored on our behalf by a third-party cloud provider (Cloudflare). Turn it off anytime in Settings and collection stops.
Payments — handled by Stripe
If you purchase RackCut Pro, payment is processed by Stripe, Inc. We never receive or store your full card number, CVV, or banking details — only a confirmation that payment succeeded and a Stripe identifier so we can unlock Pro on your device. See Stripe’s privacy policy.
Google Drive (optional, Pro)
If you upload an exported clip to Google Drive, you authorize RackCut through Google’s OAuth flow. We request only the minimum scope needed to upload files you choose (drive.file). The access token is stored locally on your device, not on our servers, and we never read, browse, or index your Drive. Revoke access anytime from your Google Account settings or by disconnecting in RackCut.
Analytics
On the free trimmer pages we use Vercel Web Analytics, a privacy-respecting service that collects aggregate, anonymous traffic data (page views, referrers). It uses no cookies and collects no personal information. It is not used in Coaching, sign-in or the Coaching demo.
Advertising
Free users may see ads served by Google AdSense. Google may use cookies or device identifiers to serve and measure ads; you can control ad personalization at adssettings.google.com. There are no ads and no ad scripts in Coaching, sign-in or the Coaching demo. In the free trimmer, RackCut Pro removes all ads and the ad script.
Service providers
These outside services help us run RackCut:
Vercel: hosts the site and, on the free trimmer pages, provides web analytics.
Supabase (Montréal, ca-central-1): stores Coaching data and clips, and handles Coaching sign-in.
Resend (United States): sends our emails, such as Coaching invites and sign-in codes.
Cloudflare: stores the optional anonymous usage data, and provides the Turnstile bot check on the Coaching demo.
Google: Google sign-in for Coaching, Google AdSense ads for free users of the trimmer, and Google Drive if you choose to upload a clip there.
Stripe: processes Pro payments.
unpkg.com: serves the FFmpeg code your browser downloads to trim and export video.
cdn.jsdelivr.net and storage.googleapis.com: serve the pose model files your browser downloads, and jsDelivr also serves exercise images in Coaching.
YouTube (youtube-nocookie.com) and Vimeo: play exercise videos that a coach links to in Coaching.
Other hosts: a coach can link an exercise video or image from any website, and your browser loads it from that site.
Cookies and local storage
RackCut uses only functional browser storage (IndexedDB) to remember your theme, settings, Pro status, and a Drive token if you connected one, and to cache app files for offline use. We do not use tracking or advertising cookies for our own purposes.
Your rights (PIPEDA)
You can withdraw consent to optional usage-data collection anytime via the Settings toggle, disconnect Google Drive and revoke our access anytime, and request access to or deletion of any personal information we hold. Because we collect almost no identifiable data, in most cases there is nothing tied to you to retrieve or delete — but you can still contact us. If you use Rack-Cut Coaching, you can additionally delete your submitted clips at any time, and you may ask us to delete your coaching account and everything in it. Email the address below and we will do it by hand. Clip files are removed within 30 days of your request. Your coaching clips and logs are held in Canada (ca-central-1) and handled under PIPEDA. Emails we send you, such as invites and sign-in codes, go through Resend in the United States. You can also clear all cached data from Settings → Storage.
Children
The free trimmer is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age in your jurisdiction) and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. Rack-Cut Coaching is for adults only — you must be 18 or older to be invited as an athlete or to coach on it.
